Also, I've spent the past few days watching Callan, and crikey o'reilly, there's some delicious slash going on here.
The Worst Soldier I Ever Saw is so good, with Meres coming to tease and flirt with Callan while he's 'in service' - first the salesman act, then that washing-up scene!
I'm currently at the end of S4, in the middle of The Contract, and I'm liking all the Meres we get this season. That bit with the cat! Reminds me of Nice People Die at Home when Callan says 'Give it to Toby, he likes animals'. Apparently that might be genuine - shame they don't seem to like him. (And what a pretty cat that is.) And Callan assuming he can borrow Meres' greatcoat and Meres looking so offended, lol.
And now they're bickering like an old married couple! Meres asks for his coat back! Grinning away, what a tease. I'm tempted to write fic set in the wake of this episode. I'm about to start the Richmond File stuff, so we'll see how that goes and how much nice slashy subtext I can find.
I have, at least, committed to writing Callan/Meres for Iddy Iddy Bang Bang this year. Summary: Somebody attempts to blackmail Meres with photographic evidence of homosexual activity (set post-Sexual Offences Act 1967, but still potentially reputation-ruining) in exchange for Section secrets. Callan and Meres are assigned to track down the would-be blackmailer.
